Description: The descent from Radicofani along the old Via Cassia is one of the most beautiful and emotional stretches of the whole Via Francigena: surrounded by hills as far as the eye can see, and Mount Amiata, with the Fort behind you. From Radicofani the road descends in the valley of the River Rigo, joining the old track of the Via Francigena at the level of the
bridge of the same name, close the confluence with the River Paglia. After reaching Ponte a Rigo, we travel on a surfaced road for a few kilometres before entering Lazio, and travelling along a dirt road that offers splendid views of the Paglia valley, as far as Proceno. We descend to Ponte Gregoriano, before tackling a last short climb towards Acquapendente. Refreshment points can be found in Ponte a Rigo and Proceno, and there is also water in Ponte Gregoriano.
