A journey on pedals


Born almost for fun and as a bet among a few friends with a passion for pure cycling, the Eroica race is now a big event of environmental, historical and sporting history, a permanent path which crosses the Terre di Siena. The itinerary, marked with signposts for cyclists, winds for 200 kilometres through the heart of the Terre di Siena, crossing the Chianti, the Crete and the Val d’Orcia, completing a journey into the artistic essence of the legendary Tuscan countryside.

The route

The Eroica trail begins in Gaiole in Chianti, winding amongst historical vineyards and passing right by the walls of Siena. From here, pedalling on dirt roads accompanied by characteristic cypresses, one enters the magical world of the Crete, made up of wide-open spaces and undulating horizons.

A diploma for the heroes

The eroica offers to those who wish, the opportunity to get the kit consisting of:

  • Road book / diploma (with the stamps that certify the route undertaken) in recognition for completing the entire route.

The appointment

By now it has become an annual cult event that adds even another attraction to Terre di Siena, should it have needed one. This is a bike race whose end result is scarcely important when compared with the inspiration underlying it. The Eroica race takes cycling back to its heroic roots, when it necessarily involved dust, mud, fatigue and a love of adventure. It recalls the pioneers of the sport and the old-time rivalry between Coppi and Bartali with a day of true athletic passion, history and culture when antique bicycles, wooll.
