World Heritage Sites

An absolute treasure trove of four places that belong to humanity therefore declared world heritage by UNESCO. Here, time prevails on space, senses filter reality till it fades into feelings. Art is in every place, and everything is beautifully made. Nature becomes a house, and the house becomes creation. Places wit is men’s ingenuity. This is an astounding treasure chest containing four main jewel places declared UNESCO Human Heritage sites: Siena , the land of Palio and of eternal surprise. Pienza, the model city created for want of Pope Pious the Second.

Siena, piazza del CampoSiena: the city of the Palio and the eternal wonder, whose old town was writing by the Committee in 1995 whereas Sienna is an extraordinary medieval city. The city is a masterpiece of dedication and inventiveness in which the buildings were designed to be adapted to the entire design of the urban structure and also to form a unity with the surrounding landscape. "(Id n. 717 1995 C (i) (ii) (iv))"

Pienza, piazza Pio IIPienza: the ideal city wanted by Pius II. Listed by the Committee in 1996 whereas the site is of universal value because either it represents the first application of the humanistic concepts in urban planning, either because it played a key role in developing the project of Conception of the ideal city which played a significant role in subsequent urban development in Italy and beyond. The meaning of this principle in Pienza, and particularly the group of buildings around the central square is a masterpiece of human creative genius. "(Id n. 789 1996 C (i) (ii) (iv))"

san Gimignano, la città delle 100 torriSan Gimignano: the tower city representing an urban art collection. And Val d’Orcia, that’s an authentic example of bucolic life. In these territories, nature and men worked together to design astounding spells: the Amiata woods, the pristine Val di Merse, the Chianti elegance. And yet, the harmonic Val di Chiana, the vigorous Crete Senesi, and the magic Val d’Elsa. "(Id n. 550 1990 C (i) (iii) (iv))"

Panorama della Val d'OrciaLa Val d’Orcia: is a universe of authentic rural life. In this case, the Committee in 2004 decision to include the whole area as the Val d'Orcia is an exceptional example of how the landscape was redesigned in the Renaissance period to reflect the ideals of good governance and to create an aesthetically pleasing image. Furthermore, the landscape of the Val d'Orcia was celebrated by painters of the Sienese school, which flourished during the Renaissance. Images of the Val d'Orcia - and particularly depictions of landscapes in which people are depicted as living in harmony with nature - have become icons of the Renaissance and have profoundly influenced the development of landscape thinking in future years. "(Id n. 1026rev 2004 C (iv) (vi))"

The surronding land where nature paints with the help of men perennial charms unifies this four cardinal points of absolute beauty: from the woods of Amiata to untouched Val di Merse, from the elegance of harmony of the Val di Chiana to Chianti, from the strength of Crete to the magic of the Val d'Elsa.
